Details:

Rodger Robson (Service No 1905) was born in Durham, England, and travelled with his family to Australia, settling in the Mount Kembla, area.

Rodger enlisted when he was 22 years of age, and at that time he was a single man, working as a miner. Rodger's father, Robert, his next of kin, lived in Kembla Heights, N.S.W.

Rodger embarked with his Unit on HMAT A15 Port Sydney on 4th September, 1916.

He served on the Western Front, and on 1st December, 1917 was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment for a gun shot wound to the head.

In March and April 1918 he was doing guard duty in England and found himself facing charges for neglect of duty and losing a prisoner. This was not that unusual as letting your mate have some free time was pretty common.

On 30th April, 1918 Rodger was transferred to the 33rd Battalion and served the remainder of the war with this Battalion.

He returned to Australia on 12 June, 1919.

In 1925 he married Gladys Layden and the couple raised their family in the Illawarra.

In 1918 a letter from his father advised the Army the family had moved from Kembla Heights to Corrimal.
