Charles Belford Cooper (Service No 3360) was born in Unanderra, N.S.W. around 1894, and attended Unanderra Public School.

He was almost 22 years old when he enlisted at Kiama, N.S.W.  At the time he was employed as a carpenter,and a single man.  He listed his sister Maud Edith Richards of Unanderra as his next of kin.

Prior to enlisting he had been a Sergeant in the CMF (Citizen Military Force).

Charles embarked from Sydney with the 9th Reinforcement, 53rd Battalion, on HMAT A68 Anchises on 24th January, 1917, and served with this Unit on the Western Front.

Charles survived the war uninjured and returned to Australia on 15th January, 1919. He was discharged from the AIF on 13th April, 1919.

In 1920 he married Ruby Spackman.

Charles died at he age of 67.
