Private Harold Cochrane (Service No 31170) was born in Wollongong and attended Unanderra Public School.

After school he became a farmer and spent 4 years with the 28th Light Horse.

Harold was 22 years old when he enlisted on 8 October 1916. Shortly after enlistment he embarked on RMS Orontes on 19th December 1916.

Harold saw service with the Artillery on the Western Front. He came through the war uninjured and after the war ended he was given permission to travel to America to study.

He was promoted to Sergeant before going to America, and from 10th April, 1919 to 10th July, 1919 he attended a course on the care and breeding of farm animals. His results were very good and he returned to Australia from America in July 1919.

Harold was discharged from the AIF on 27th May 1920.

After discharge he travelled to Queensland and on 25th February, 1925, he married Ruth Maltby. The Cochranes remained in Queensland for the rest of their lives.
