Ernest William Osborne
Ernest Osborne (Service No 3287) enlisted when he was 22 years old. He was single, and worked as a miner. Henry Osborne, Ernest's father and next of kin, was living in Evans Street, Wollongong, N.S.W.
Ernest embarked from Sydney withthe 30th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement, on HMAT A20 Honorata on 2nd May 1916. On arrival in Egypt Ernest and was 'taken on strength' to the 56th Battalion and served with this Unit on the Western Front.
He seems to have been uninjured but in July 1918 he was admitted to 49th Casualty Clearing station in France with Pneumonia, and then to hospital in England for further treatment.
Ernest returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged from the AIF.
In 1921 he married Regina Poole.
Ernest Osborne is remembered on the Unanderra School Roll of Honour.
