William Hugh Robertson
William Robertson (Service No 2944) was born in Nowra about 1893. At the time of enlistment he was working as a grocer.
He was 21 years old when he enlisted, single, and named his father John, then living inWilson Street, Wollongong, as his next of kin.
William embarked from Sydney, with the 1st Battalion, 9th Reinforcements, on HMAT A8 Argyllshire on 30 September, 1915.
After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to the 53rd Battalion to fight in France. William was sent to the front lines, and along with 2230 others, lost his life in the battle of Fromelle on 19th July 1916.
His family did not get confirmation of his death until 1917.
William is buried in Ration Farm Cemetrery (Plot 6, Row F, Grave 44) La Chapelle D'Armentieres, France.
William's brothers Samuel and Ronald.also served.
