Private Walter Wellings (Service no. 1710) was born in Unanderra and at the time of enlistment he was described as a single 21 year old engine fitter. He had spent two years in the cadets and two years in the Militia. He embarked on HMAT A7 Medic with the November 1916 Reinforcements Camel Corps on 12th December, 1916.

After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to the 4th/12th Light Horse and on 13th October, 1917 he was again transferred to the Australian Flying Corps. He saw service in Egypt and Palestine.

Private Wellings returned to Australia in March, 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 29th May, 1919 and in 1927 he married Alice Kerslake.

Walter died in Lithgow in July, 1945.
