Austin Thickett
Private Austin Thickett (Service no. 2490) was born in England circa 1889. He came to Australia in October, 1911 and settled in Helensburg. At the time of enlistment he was described as a single 27 year old coal miner.
Austin embarked on HMAT A68 Anchises with 5th Reinforcements 45th Battalion on 24th August, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front with the battalion. On 7th June, 1917 while engaged in the Battle of Messines he was killed.
Austin Thickett has no known grave and is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial.
