Walter Cecil Cruickshanks
Lance Corporal Walter Cruickshanks (Service no. 2718) was born circa 1890 and had spent three years in the CMF. He was a single 25 year old mechanic.
Walter embarked on HMAT A54 Runic with 8th Reinforcements 2nd Battalion on 9th August, 1915. He was sent straight to Gallipoli and saw service till the evacuation. In France with 11 Platoon A coy 2nd Battalion, Walter went into action at Pozieres, where he was killed in action.
He was one of four men killed when a shell hit their trench and buried them. There is no grave noted on his file.
