Private George Oxman (Service no. 5798) was a 30 year old miner from Keiraville who married Ethel Shipp on 27th July, 1906. He and his brother John enlisted on the same day and embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses with Tunnelling coy Reinforcements on 25th October, 1916.

Both George and his brother were members of the 3rd Tunnelling coy and saw service on the Western Front. This unit contained a large number of Illawarra miners.

He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 8th August, 1919. George Oxman is remembered on the Wollongong Congregational Church Roll of Honour.
