John Barry Ryan
John Ryan (Service No 2216) was born in Strathfield, NSW about 1896, one of two children. He lost his parents at a fairly young age, his father at 14 and his mother at 18. His father had been Corrimal Stationmaster and John had attended Corrimal School. At the time of enlistment he was a single 19 year old school teacher. He had also served in the Militia.
John embarked on HMAT A63 Karoola on 16th June 1915 with 6th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion. He joined A Company, 3rd Battalion at Gallipoli and was killed between 7 & 12 August, 1915 at Lone Pine. He is buried in Lone Pine Cemetery Plot I, Row C, Grave 6.
John listed his sister Kathleen Ryan as next of kin but a will on file leaves all his possessions to named mates in A Company.
