William Herbert Hunt
William Hunt (Service No 950) was born about 1894 in Helensburgh, NSW. He was a single 20 year old bushman from who had served 3 years in the 37th Infantry CMF when he enlisted.
He embarked on HMAT A23 Suffolk on 18th October 1914 with C Company, 2nd Battalion. After training in Egypt he went with the Gallipoli landing force and arrived on there on 25th April. William survived the first frantic days but was wounded in action on 7th May 1915. The actual wounds are not stated. He was evacuated for treatment but died of his wounds, on board the hospital ship Lutzow, the following day and was buried at sea. William is remembered on the Lone Pine Memorial.
His brother Prescott Hunt (Service No 3384) also served but died in France in 1918.
