William Peter Stewart
William Stewart (Service No 1265) was born about 1886. Nothing is known of his early life but at the time of enlistment he was a single 29 year old miner living at Helensburgh, N.S.W..
He embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic with D Company, 18th Battalion on 25th June 1915. William arrived in Egypt and was sent to Gallipoli soon after. He arrived on 16th August in time to take part in the late August push but was wounded in action on 22nd August. He was treated at the casualty clearing station and then evacuated to hospital in Malta as his condition deteriorated. William had received a gun shot wound to his head and a skull fracture and died from these wounds on 5th September 1915.
He is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery Malta. Plot B, Row IX, Grave 4.
