Details:

Stanislaus Donnellan (Service no. 3747) was born in Glebe, NSW, in 1893. He attended St Patricks Catholic School at Lithgow and at the time of enlistment he was a single 22 year old clerk living and working in Port Kembla. He embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic on 20th December 1915 with 13th Battalion, 12th Reinforcements and arrived in Egypt in early 1916 where he joined B Company.

He was sent to France with 13th Battalion arriving in early June. On 7th August he was promoted to Lance Corporal but on 14th August, while engaged in the battle for Moquet Farm near Poziers, he was killed. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux.

His parents received a card from him in August 1916 stating he was well but they were advised he was missing soon after. His death was not confirmed for some time and this caused much distress for them. His mother wrote to the Army in 1921 suggesting he may be in hospital with memory loss and could they please check? She signed it "His Mother". His father also asked if a notice could be placed in the paper for any information about him.
