John William Robert Roose was a married 23 year old insurance agent from Corrimal, NSW when he enlisted on 10th July, 1915. He had served in the C M F. John married Willhelmina Victoria Morris at Bulli on 22nd July, 1915. Willhelmina wrote to the Army to request his discharge on 6th September, 1915, but this was rejected. On 5th October he left his wife, and daughter Alma, and embarked on HMAT A32 Themistocles with 18th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements.

After arriving in Egypt on 10th January 1916 he was posted to A Company and travelled with them to France. John saw service on the Western Front but was killed on 21st November 1916.
There is no Red Cross File to indicate what happened and he has no known grave. He is remembered on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux.
