William Ernest Ring
William Ring (Service No 632) was born in Wollongong,NSW about 1884. At the time of enlistment he was a single 30 year old labourer.His parents were deceased by this time and listed his sister Mrs Thomas as next of kin.
He embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic with B Company, 19th Battalion on 25th June 1915 and arrived on Gallipoli on 16 th August 1915. William came through that campaign without injury and after the evacuation saw service in Egypt before going to the Western Front. On 26th July 1916 he was wounded, receiving a gun shot wound to his hand. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment, returning to his unit on 25th January 1917.
On 3rd May 1917 he was with 5 Platoon, B Company at Bullecourt, when at about 5 30 am was seen lying in no mans land with a bad wound to his chest. He was declared dead and is buried in Queant Road Cemetery Plot VI, Row B, Grave 37 at Buissy France.
