John Sproule (Service No 1768) was born at Woodbrook, Jamberoo, near Kiama, N.S.W.

John worked as a farmer, was single and 18 years old when he enlisted, the first of three brothers to do so.  

He embarked on from Sydney on HMAT A34 Persic with 7th Light Horse Regiment, 12th Reinforcement, on 18th November 1915.   John arrived in Egypt on 28th December 1915 but was admitted to hospital 2 days later with mumps.  He returned to his unit on 20th January 1916. 

On 21st July 1916 he transferred to Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron and served in the Middle East.

John was admitted to hospital with malaria on 11th May 1918.

He was given leave in England in April 1919 and returned to Australia in July 1919.  John was discharged on 20th September 1919.

On 12th November 1923 John married Ada Irvine and the couple lived in Kiama, N.S.W.

John died in 1968.
