Robert Parker Hindmarsh
Robert Hindmarsh (Service No 510) was born in Newcastle, N.S.W. around 1893.
Robert's father was the Mine Manager at the Corrimal Colliery.
Robert enlisted when he was 21 years of age. He was single and employed as an engineer, and the first of 3 brothers to enlist.
He embarked on HMAT A30 Bordia with 2nd Light Horse, 2nd Signal Troop on 22nd December 1914. Robert served at Gallipoli from 11th May 1915. After the evacuation, on 14th February 1916, he was promoted to Lance Corporal while serving in Egypt.
Robert was admitted to hospital in Cairo on 10th March 1916 with a dislocated knee. He was subsequently classified as unfit for service, and returned to Australia in April 1916. He was discharged medically unfit on 11th August 1916.
Robert and his brother George survived the war; their brother Thomas was killed in action.
