Edwin James White
Edwin White (Service No 1418) was born in 1895. At the time of enlistment he was a single 20 year old farmer from Wollongong and had served 4 years in the CMF. He embarked on HMAT SS Hawkes Bay on 23rd October 1915 with 12th Reinforcements, 6th Light Horse.
On arrival in Egypt on the 14th December 1915 Edwin was admitted to hospital with mumps. On 21st August 1916 he was transferred to 1st Field Artillery Brigade in France and saw service with them until he was admitted to hospital with trench foot on 22nd November 1916. He spent some time in England for treatment and on 15th June1917 he returned to the Western Front, joining 17th Battery on 21st June 1917.
On 25th June 1917 he was admitted to the first Australian Casualty Clearing Station for treatment of gun shot wounds to his arm, thigh and side. He did not recover and died from these wounds the same day. Edwin is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension Plot III, Row D, Grave 107.
