James Joseph Sheather
James Sheather (Serivce No 4625) was born in Bulli, N.S.W.
When James enlisted he was 22 years old, single, and employed as wheeler.
James embarked on HMAT A62 Wandilla on 3rd February 1916 with the 14th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion. He arrived in France on 27th July 1916. James saw service on the Western Front. On 3rd September 1916, while serving in Belgium, he became ill and was admitted to hospital returning to his unit on 15th November.
On 14th November 1916 James was wounded, receiving a gun shot wound to his head and abdomen. He was evacuated to England for treatment the next day. In April 1917 he was returned to Australia and discharged medically unfit, on 16th July 1917, due to deafness in his left ear.
In 1963 he married Lillian Bradford.
