Tom Dean (Service No 2382) was born in Manchester England and was baptised there on 23rd February 1898. He left England and settled in Bulli some time after 1911. At the time of enlistment he was a single 19 year old farm labourer. Tom embarked on HMAT A38 Themistocles on 5th October 1915 with 5th Reinforcements, 19th Battalion.

After arriving in Egypt he was admitted to hospital on 23rd December 1915. Tom finally arrived in France with 19th Battalion on 26th March 1916. On 24th August 1916 while fighting at the Somme he was severely wounded and evacuated to 10th General Hospital for treatment to a gun shot wound to his leg. Unfortunately he died from his wounds 3 days later on 27th August 1916. Tom is buried in St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Grave Reference B, 26,16.
