William Washbourne (Service No 60046) was born in Derbyshire, England and came to Australia with his family in 1916.

William enlisted when he was 19 years old; he was single, worked as a Wheeler and lived at Bulli, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on board SS Gaika with 15th NSW Reinforcements on 30th July 1918.  William arrived in England on 13th October 1918 and was sent to France on 10th November to join 56th Battalion.

William returned to Australia in August 1919 and was discharged on 8th October 1919.

In 1922 he married Annie Miller in Wollongong and remained in the area for the rest of his life.
