Joseph Harold Fowler
Joseph Fowler (Service No 4784) was born in Staffordshire, England in April 1884. He arrived in Australia with his family on 21st August 1884 and they settled at Woonona, N.S.W. Joseph attended Woonona Public School and gained employment as a miner.
When he enlisted Joseph was 31 years of age and single. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Star of England with 15th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, on 8th March 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt on 20th April 1916 and Joseph was transferred to 56th Battalion.
He was admitted to hospital sick in Egypt on 29th May 1916 but discharged in time to join the ship for France, however Joseph was taken from the ship at Malta and admitted to hospital on 26th June 1916.
He died there the next day from haematosis, so due to illness Joseph did not see active service.
Joseph is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta: Plot IX, Row C, Grave 4.
