Norman Kingsley Fletcher
Norman Fletcher (Service No 18659) was born in New Guinea around 1896. Norman's father was a Minister of Religion. Norman attended Sydney Grammar School.
He enlisted when he was 20 years old; he was single and working as a clerk, and Norman's family lived at The Manse, Corrimal, N.S.W. where his father was serving. Norman had served 2 years in the Militia.
He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 7th Field Artillery, 26th Battery, on 11th May 1916. The troops arrived in England on 10th July 1916 and Norman joined his Unit in France on 28th November 1916.
Admitted to hospital on 4th December when he contracted influenza, Norman did not return to his Unit until 10th February 1917.
On 13th February 1917 Norman was wounded while fighting and evacuated to hospital in England on 24th February for treatment of gun shot wounds to his left thigh. He returned to France on 6th September 1917 and served on the Western Front.
Norman was sick again and then had leave in Paris before returning to his unit on 17th September 1918.
Norman was killed in action on 29th September 1918 while fighting with the Australian Medium Trench Mortar Battery.
He is buried in Unicorn Cemetery, Vendhuile, France: Plot II, Row D, Grave 13.
