Colin Elder (Service No 26450) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. in January 1896,  the son of the Church of England Minister.  He was educated at Sydney Grammar School and Wagga Agricultural Farm.  Colin's brothers, Kenneth & Eric both served.

When Colin enlisted he was working as a station overseer, and was 20 years old and single.

He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A47 Mashobra with 8th Reinforcements, Divisional Ammunition Column, on 14th September 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 2nd November 1916, and after training, Colin was sent on to France, arriving on 16th March 1917.

On 1st May 1917 Colin was transferred to 14th Battery 5th Field Artillery Brigade and saw service on the Western Front.

Colin was killed in action in the Passchendaele area, Ypres, and is buried in Dochy Farm New British Cemetery, Belgium: Plot III, Row A, Grave 25.
