Kenneth Raymond Elder
Kenneth Raymond Elder (Service No 7309) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. in April 1894 while his father was posted to the Wollongong Church.
Kenneth enlisted when he was 21 years of age. He was single and employed as a clerk.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A69 Warialda with 1st Divisional Train Reinforcements on 8th October 1915. Kenneth arrived in England on 2nd November 1915, and on 21st November 1915 was transferred to 2nd Company, 2nd Army Service Corps.
Kenneth arrived in France on 1st April 1916 but poor health saw him returned to England for medical treatment, and he finally arrived in France on 9th December 1916. Kenneth was promoted to Sergeant on 10th January 1917.
While in France he was transferred to the Pay Corps on 13th April 1917. Kenneth served on the Western Front and England. On 8th February 1919 he was admitted to hospital suffering from pneumonia.
Kenneth returned to Australia in March 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on 13th May 1919.
In 1929 he married Frances Wyatt and remained in Sydney till he died in 1971.
Kenneth's brother Colin Elder (Service No 26450) was killed in action. Another brother, Lieutenant Eric Elder (Service No 4670), also served and returned home.
