George Richard Gill
George Gill (Service No 412) was born in West Maitland, N.S.W. around 1889.
His family moved to the South Coast of N.S.W. and George attended Nowra Public School.
George enlisted at the age of 28 years when he was single and working as a butcher. George's father, his nominated next of kin, was stationed at Balgownie Police Station, near Wollongong, N.S.W. at this time.
George embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A29 Suevic on 21st December 1914, with C Squadron, 6th Light Horse. He arrived on Gallipoli 13th July 1915 and served on the peninsula until the evacuation.
On 12 August 1918 George was admitted to hospital in Egypt. George died of heart failure at the hospital on 19th September 1918.
George is buried in Port Said War Memorial Cemetery, Row E, Grave 5.
