David Griffiths (Service No 1826) was born in Ipswich, Qld around 1891.

When David enlisted he was 25 years old and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W.  He was single, and worked as a labourer.

David embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney with 2nd Reinforcements, 36th Battalion on 4th September 1916.  After arriving in England on 29th October 1916 he was posted to 11 Platoon, C Company and joined them in France on 18th January 1917.

David served on the Western Front and was waiting in the trenches at the start of the Messines battle when he was hit by a piece of shell and killed.

There is no known grave for David.  He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium and, as reported in the Illawarra Mercury, 1 June, 1917, the Helensburgh, N.S.W., School Memorial.
