Paturoa Pineaha
Paturoa Pineaha (Service No 3857) was born in Hastings, New Zealand around 1887.
Paturoa was living in Port Kembla, N.S.W. when he enlisted at the age of 28. He was employed as a labourer. Paturoa had served 13 months with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles.
He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A54 Runic with 9th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion on 20th January 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt but were soon moved on to France, arriving there on 25th March 1916.
Only weeks later, on 5th May 1916, Paturoa was killed in action near Amentieres - one of the first to be killed in France.
Paturoa is buried in Brewery Orchard Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France: Plot IV, Row C, Grave 25.
