Thomas Potter (Service No 5806) was born in Morpeth, Northumberland, England, around 1895.

Thomas enlisted when he was living, with his mother, at Balgownie, N.S.W.  He was 21 years old, single, and employed as a coal miner.

Thomas embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A38 Ulysses with the Tunnelling Company Reinforcements on 25th October 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 28th December 1916 and Thomas was sent on to France, arriving on 6th February 1917.

Thomas served on the Western Front.

He returned to Australia in May 1919, and was discharged on 7th August 1919.  Thomas' service is commemorated on the Balgownie War Memorial 1914-1918.
