Henry Marshall Timbs
Henry Timbs (Service No 5240) was born in Berry, N.S.W. Henry enlisted when the Waratah March passed through the Illawarra district; he was 20 years old, single and worked as a farmer at Albion Park, N.S.W.
Henry embarked from Sydney on board SS Makarini on 1st April 1916, with 16th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion.
After a short stop in Egypt, the Battalion arrived in France on 20th May 1916. During the Battle of the Somme, at Poziere, Henry was wounded, receiving a serious gun shot wound to his right arm, on 22nd July 1916. He was evacuated to hospital in England and then repatriated to Australia, arriving in May 1917. He was discharged, medically unfit, on 23rd August 1917.
Henry married Adelaide Anderson at Kiama, N.S.W in 1917 and they had 5 children.
Henry died at Dapto in 1962.
