George Burns (Service No 3251) was born in Jerilderie, N.S.W. in 1887.

When George enlisted he was single, 28 years old, and employed as a railway porter at Dunmore, N.S.W.   George had served 4 years in the C M F.

He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A32 Themistocles with 11th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion, on 5th October 1915.  Arriving in Egypt after the evacuation, George was deployed to the Lewis gun Section, D Company, 1st Battalion, on 14th February 1916, and the troops were then sent  to France.

Samuel served on the Western Front until 5th November 1916 when he was one of a large number of men who were killed in action.  The fighting was such that these men could not be recovered and it was some time before he was able to be buried.

Samuel is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery, France: Plot XIII, Row AA, Grave 22.
