George McManus (Service No 58700) was born in Singleton, N.S.W.
When George, a widower, enlisted he was 41 years of age, employed as a miner,and lived at Kembla Heights, N.S.W.
George nominated his son, John, as his next of kin.
George embarked from Sydney on board SS Field Marshal/ Feldmarschall with 9th NSW General Reinforcements on 19th June 1918. The troops arrived in England on 25th August 1918 and George was posted to 56th Battalion on 29th September 1918.
Due to his age and health, George remained in England until he was returned to Australia on the 'Somali' on 10th December 1918.
George was discharged medically unfit on 16th July 1919.
