The troops arrived in England on 16th June 1916 and after training Maurice joined 46th Battalion in France on 12th February 1917 and served on the Western Front.
On 11th April 1917 Maurice was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment to a gun shot wound to his left shoulder. He was returned to the front on 26th November 1917.
On 31st March 1918 Maurice was wounded a second time, and was taken to 13th Field Ambulance for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his head. His wounds were severe and he died the same day.
