Eric Dowson Simmons
Eric Simmons was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.
When Eric enlisted he was single, 23 years old, and employed as an accountant, living in Perth, W.A.
He embarked from Fremantle on board HMAT A38 Ulysses with 15th Reinforcements, 11th Battalion, on 1st April 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt on 25th April 1916, and Eric joined C Company, 11th battalion, in France on 25th October 1916.
Eric was promoted to Lieutenant soon after, on 21st November 1916.
Eric was killed in action when his Platoon was engaged in an attack at Lagnicourt, France, on 15th April 1917.
There is no known grave for Eric; he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux.
