Austin Stanley Taylor
Austin Taylor (Service No 6188) was born in East Kangaloon, N.S.W. around 1896 and attended East Kangaloon Public School. He served for 4 years with the cadets and 2 years with 37th Infantry CMF.
When Austin enlisted at the age of 20, he was single, lived at Woonona, N.S.W. and was employed as a miner.
Austin embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A11 Ascanius with 17th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion, on 25th October 1916.
After arriving in England on 28th December 1916 he spent time training after which he joined A Company, 20th Battalion, on the Western Front on 22nd June 1917.
On 20th September 1917 Austin was fighting in the Menin Road area when he was killed by a shell. Austin was immediately buried in De Knotts Farm, but the location of his grave has been lost.
Austin is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.
