Donald Ewen Ross
Donald Ross (Service No 4889) was born in Victoria. At the time of enlistment he was a single 41 year old farmer from Wollongong, NSW. He embarked on HMAT A15 Star of England with 15th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion on 8th March 1916. He arrived in Egypt and was transferred to 56th Battalion on 20th April 1916.
Donald arrived in France on 27th June 1916. On 20th July, 1916 he was killed in action, one of the 2200 killed at Fromelle. He is buried in Anzac Cemetery Sailly-Sur-La-Lys Plot I, Row F, Grave 5.
His brother Charles Alexander Ross (Service No 4888) also served and returned to Australia in June 1919.
