William Joseph Moloney
William Moloney (Service No 2095) was born in Shellharbour, N.S.W. and enlisted when he was 20 years old, single, and working as a farmer.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 3rd Reinforcements, 35th Battalion on 24th August 1916. William arrived in England on 11th October 1916 and was admitted to hospital sick soon after, but no illness is recorded on his documents. He was readmitted to hospital on 29th December 1916.
William finally arrived in France on 5th May 1918 but was again admitted to hospital in France sick. He has leave in Paris noted a number of times.
William was transferred to 3rd Echelon Headquarters and gained promotion to Corporal in between hospital admissions.
When the war was over he requested discharge in England but this was denied and he was returned to Australia. On 22nd May 1919 he married Madeleine Lectere at Rouen, France. There is a letter on William's file from her father, advising that after the marriage he was offering a partnership in his business to Corporal Moloney.
William returned to Australia with his wife in November 1919 and was discharged on 20th February 1920.
He and Madeleine had one daughter.
William died in Concord Hospital in 1947 age 51.
