William Fleming (Service No 2405) was born in Greenock, Scotland about August, 1891. William's NAA file states he had been an apprentice butcher in Scotland.

At the time of enlistment William was a married 24 year old horse driver from Kentish Creek Mount Keira. William was married to Vida Jobson in Wollongong in 1916.

William embarked on HMAT A60 Aeneas with 5th Reinforcements, 54th Battalion on 30th September, 1916. He arrived in England on 19th November, 1916 and joined 54th Battalion in France on 8th February, 1917.

William was admitted to hospital soon after with influenza and trench feet and was sent to England for treatment on 17th March, 1917. He took some time to recover and finally returned to his unit on 21st August,1917.

William saw service on the Western Front until 1st September, 1918 when he was wounded in action. William was near Peronne when he received a gun shot wound to his left arm. After treatment in England, he was returned to Australia in December 1918.

William was discharged medically unfit on 1st November, 1919. His life after the War is unknown.
