Arthur Ballinger (Service No 2108) was born in Coleford, England.

When he enlisted, Arthur was 26 years old, single and worked as an orchardist.  He lived with his mother at 'Folly House', Coledale, N.S.W.

Arthur embarked from Sydney on HMAT A63 Karoola with 6thRreinforcements, 3rd Battalion on 16th June 1915.  The troops arrived in Egypt and were sent immediately to Gallipoli to take part in the Lone Pine attack.  Arriving on 4th August, Arthur was wounded only 2 days later, on 6th August, sustaining a bullet wound to his chest.  

He was evacuated for treatment, and spent a long time in hospital in Egypt and England before being returned to Australia in May 1916 as an invalid.

Arthur was discharged medically unfit on 18th September 1916 and was awarded a medical pension.

Arthur died on 28th February 1918 as a result of his war wounds.
