James Jack (Service No 2781) was born in Bulli, N.S.W. in 1901.  James' father was killed in a mine accident in October 1901.

At enlistment James stated he was 18 years of age and employed as a clerk at Woonona, N.S.W, however his actual age was 16.  

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A15 Port Sydney with the 1917 March Reinforcements on 9th May 1917 and arrived in Egypt on 20th June 1917.  

James was posted to 4th Camel Battalion on 20th December 1917and served in the Middle East with the Camel Corps until 31st July 1918 when he joined the 4th Light Horse.  He was wounded in action on 27th March 1918 having received a bomb wound to his foot.

On 12th November 1918 James was admitted to hospital suffering from malaria, with complications.  He was returned to Australia in December 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 17th April 1919.

James died in Sydney in 1956.
