Zachariah Jeffery
Zachariah Jeffery (Service No 118) was born in Goulburn, N.S.W.
On 7th February 1901 Zachariah married Beatrice Weathers.
When he enlisted at the age of 40, Zachariah was working as a locomotive driver and the family lived at Thirroul, N.S.W.
Zachariah embarked from Sydney on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with Section 1, on 7th February 1917 holding the rank of Corporal. The troops arrived in England on 11th April 1917 and Zachariah joined 60th Railway Company in France on 14th May 1917.
On 3rd July 1918 he was admitted to hospital after becoming ill, and was returned to his unit on 27th July, serving until the end of the war.
He was returned to Australia in August 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 24th February 1920.
In 1925 his wife Beatrice died. On 14th April 1945 he married Gertrude Baylden.
Zachariah died in 1958.
