Henry Harrison Curwen
Henry Curwen (Service No 739) was born at Helensburgh, N.S.W. around 1888.
When he enlisted Henry was living at South Cessnock, N.S.W; he was single, 29 yearS old and employed as a miner.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A20 Hororata with C Company, 34th Battalion on 2nd May 1916. He arrived in England on 23rd June 1916 but spent some time in hospital sick.
Henry finally joined the 34th Battalion in France on 29th May 1917. On 13th July 1917 he was wounded in action and admitted to hospital in France for treatment of bullet wounds to his hip and hand.
Records show that while in England, Henry married Marjorie Turneron 23rd June 1917, however, this date conflicts with his Army documents which indicate that he was France from 29th May.
Henry returned to his unit on 10th January 1918. On 4th June 1918 Henry was wounded a second time and sent to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left knee.
