Frank Pyziak
Frank Pyziak (Service No 2471) was born in Widzen, Poland, Russia. He arrived in Australia in 1909 and was naturalized in 1914.
At enlistment Frank was 27 years of age, single, and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. where he worked as an orchardist.
On 14th September 1916 he embarked from Sydney on HMAT A47 Mashobra with 5th Reinforcements, 53rd Battalion. The troops arrived in England on 2nd November 1916 and Frank joined 53rd Battalion in France on 8th February 1917.
In May 1917 he became ill and was admitted to hospital, and in February & early March 1918 had a further two short hospital admissions.
On 27th March 1918 Frank was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his shoulder. He returned to his unit on 12th July 1918.
On 1st September 1918 he was wounded a second time, receiving a gun shot wound to his right leg. After time in hospital in England he was invalided back to Australia in January 1919, where he spent more time in hospital.
Frank was discharged medically unfit on 13th October 1919.
Frank enlisted for service in World War 2 on 3rd January 1941 (Service No NX70687) and served until 1st November 1944.
In 1944 he married Bessie Penton in Wollongong.
Frank died in Wollongong in 1962.
