Samuel Nathaniel Dally
Samuel Dally (Service No 248) was born in Beaconsfield, Tasmania. At the time of enlistment he was a single 19 year old butcher from Wollongong who had served 2 years in the Citizen Military Forces.
Samuel embarked on HMAT A 29 Suevic with B Squadron, 6th Light Horse on 21st December, 1914.
Samuel arrived in Egypt and went on to on Gallipoli, arriving 9th May,1915 where he served as Infantry.
On 8th August, 1915, Samuel was wounded in action, receiving a bullet wound to his head and leg. He was evacuated to hospital in Malta and then England for treatment. Samuel lost an eye as a result of his wounds. He was returned to Australia in November, 1915 and discharged medically unfit on 15th February,1916.
In 1917, Samuel married Johanna Hurt at Dapto and they raised 6 children. He died in 1948.
