Edward Langton (Service No 2931) was born in Lancashire England about 1895 and made his way to Australia. At the time of enlistment he was a single 21 year old miner from Scarborough.

Edward embarked on HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 9th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion on 30th September, 1915. After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to 54th Battalion on 14th February 1916.

On 8th March, 1916 he was admitted to hospital sick in Cairo. Edward re-joined his Battalion in France on 26th September, 1916.

Edward saw service on the Western Front until 15th May, 1917 when he was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left thumb. Edward returned to his unit on 16th June, 1917.

Edward was wounded a second time on 17th April, 1918 and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gas poisoning. He did not return to the fighting.

On 15th April 1917, Edward was promoted to Lieutenant Corporal and on 10th July, 1917 to Corporal. He was made Lieutenant Sergeant on 1st November, 1917.

On 29th January, 1917 he married Annie Unsworth at Wigan while on leave.
Edward returned to Australia with his wife and a child in June, 1919 and was discharged on 10th October,1919.
