Albert Luff
Albert Luff (Service No 922) was 39 years of age and single when he enlisted with the AIF. At the time he worked as a farrier and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A72 Beltana with D Company, 30th Battalion, on 9th November 1915. He arrived in Egypt on 11th December 1915 and was sent to France on 23rd June 1916. D Company were carriers of ammunition to the attacking troops at the battle of Fromelle and Albert survived this terrible fighting.
Albert saw service on the Western Front until 29th September 1917 when he was wounded in action in the Messines area and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his buttocks.
He was returned to Australia in June 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 22nd August 1918.
On 3rd September 1918 Albert re-enlisted (Service No 1566) and served with the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force, Army Medical Corps working on hospital ships.
Albert was discharged on 30th October 1919.
