Arthur Edward Rawnsley
Arthur Rawnsley (Service No 5728) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. around 1888.
At enlistment Arthur was single, 26 years old, and worked as a labourer.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A55 Kyarra with 18th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, on 3rd June 1916. After arriving in England on 3rd August 1916, Arthur joined D Company, 3rd Battalion in France on 6th October 1916.
He saw service on the Western Front until 4th May 1917 when he was wounded in action at Bullecourt and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment to shrapnel wounds to both arms. His injuries caused permanent damage and he was returned to Australia in October 1917. After further treatment in Australia Arthur was discharged on 14th May 1918.
In 1926 he married Victoria Gray at Redfern, N.S.W.
