Charles Ernest Scott
Charles Scott (Service No 832) was born in Kiama, N.S.W.
At enlistment Charles was single, 21 years old and worked at a smelter in Wollongong, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with G Company, 4th Battalion, on 20th October 1914. He arrived in Egypt with the first contingent and was on his way to Gallipoli when he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia on 24th April 1915. He recovered and joined 4th Battalion on Gallipoli on 20th May 1915.
Charles saw service on Gallipoli until 9th August 1915 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in Cairo for treatment of a gun shot wound to his back.
He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 15th February 1916 and went to France, arriving on 30th March 1916. He saw service at Pozieres and was wounded a second time between 22nd and 27th July and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his head and both legs.
He returned to the Western Front on 20th December 1916 and was promoted to Corporal on 3rd March 1917 and then to Sergeant on 21st May 1917.
Charles served until October 1918 when he was returned to Australia on Special 1914 Leave.
He was discharged on 22nd February 1919.
On 11th March 1919 he married Della Jarrett and they had one child.
He remained in Wollongong and died there in 1960.
