Risby Clement Morrisby
Risby Morrisby (Service No 1738) was born in Bega, N.S.W.
Risby enlisted 10 days after his 18th birthday; he was single, lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. and was unemployed.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A23 Suffolk with 2nd Reinforcements, 17th Battalion, on 28th July 1915. The troops arrived in Egypt and Risby was sent on to Gallipoli where he served with A Company, 17th Battalion, from 17th September until the evacuation.
He was then sent to France and arrived on 17th March 1916. Risby was wounded in action on 26th July 1916 and evacuated to England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his shoulder. After treatment, and while still in England, he attended signal school so when he returned to his Unit on 14th January 1917 he took on duties as a signaller.
On 5th March he was promoted to Lance Corporal.
Risby was wounded a second time on 3rd May 1917 and evacuated to England for treatment for chest wounds, however due to his injuries he was returned to Australia in July 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 30th October 1917.
On 21st October 1919 he married Grace Shropshire and they had 2 children.
Risby died in Maitland in 1970.
Risby's brother Rokeby Morrisby (Service No 2858) also served in the 17th Battalion.
