Rokeby Edwin Morrisby
Rokeby Morrisby (Service No 2858) was born in Bega, N.S.W.
At enlistment Rokeby was single, 31 years old, lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. and worked as a quarryman/ labourer. He had served 2 years with the Militia.
Rokeby embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 6th Reinforcements, 17th Battalion, on 2nd November 1915.
He arrived in France with C Company, 17th Battalion on 17th March 1916 and saw service on the Western Front until 13th September 1916 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his back. He returned to his unit in December 1916.
On 15th May 1918 he was promoted to Corporal.
Rokeby returned to Australia in April 1919 and was discharged on 24th July 1919.
After the war Rokeby went to Fiji where he had family and he died there in April 1949.
Rokeby's brother Risby (Service No 1738) also served in the 17th Battalion.
